An Exciting Opportunity to Lead, Develop & Grow a Flood Risk Team!
We are recruiting for an established and highly regarded engineering consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Principal Flood Risk Engineer or Associate Director to lead and develop its Flood Risk team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who wants to make a genuine impact, taking ownership of the company's growing flood modelling capability, developing technical expertise and helping shape the future of the department.
Rather than simply managing an established function, you'll have the opportunity to build and develop a specialist service, supported by an experienced team and an established client base.
The Role
You'll take responsibility for a team of approximately 5–6 Flood Risk Engineers, working closely with a similarly sized Infrastructure Engineering team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the delivery of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), hydraulic modelling and flood mitigation strategies.
- Developing and expanding the company's in-house flood modelling capability.
- Establishing technical standards, modelling procedures and best practice.
- Managing and mentoring a team of Flood Risk Engineers.
- Overseeing project delivery, budgets, programmes and technical quality.
- Building strong client relationships and identifying opportunities for business growth.
- Providing technical leadership across a range of development-related flood risk projects.
- Working collaboratively with the wider civil infrastructure team.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with experienced Flood Risk Engineers who have:
- Strong experience in flood risk consultancy, ideally within the residential and commercial development sectors.
- Excellent technical knowledge of Flood Risk Assessments and hydraulic modelling.
- Experience using TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS or equivalent modelling software.
- A sound understanding of planning policy, climate change allowances and flood mitigation.
- Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships.
- Previous experience mentoring, supervising or managing engineers.
- The ambition and technical ability to develop and grow a specialist modelling team.
- Strong communication, technical reporting and commercial awareness.
A degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM or equivalent) would be advantageous but is not essential.
What's on Offer?
- Salary: £65,000–£85,000
- 10% Employer Pension Contribution
- 10% Bonus
- Excellent additional benefits package
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- Offices in London and Hertfordshire
- Opportunity to lead and develop an established team
- Genuine influence over the future direction of the Flood Risk department
- Friendly, supportive and collaborative working environment
- Excellent career progression opportunities
Who Should Apply?
We're open to applications from both established Associate Directors and experienced Senior/Principal Flood Risk Engineers who are ready to take the next step in their careers.
If you're technically strong, commercially aware and excited by the opportunity to develop a flood modelling capability and lead a team, we'd love to hear from you.
