We’re currently supporting a well-established, growing multi-disciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint an Associate Structural Engineer to lead its Cardiff team. This is a senior leadership-focused role, ideal for someone already operating at Associate level, or a Principal/Senior Structural Engineer who is looking to step up and take on greater responsibility across people, projects, and clients.
This opportunity offers a genuine chance to shape and influence a regional team while working on a diverse and technically engaging portfolio of projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing workload and resources, leading client relationships, and contributing strategically to project delivery. The team works across a broad range of sectors including commercial, healthcare, residential, aviation, energy, and an expanding pipeline of data centre projects across the UK and internationally. You’ll be trusted to lead from the front while still remaining hands-on where it adds value.
My client is looking for a technically strong and commercially aware Structural Engineer who enjoys leadership, takes ownership of delivery, and is motivated by progression, influence, and long-term career development.
What’s On Offer
- A clear and supported route to Associate (if not already operating at this level), with scope to influence business decisions.
- High-profile and technically complex projects, including large-scale data centres and international work.
- A leadership-focused role with autonomy over team resourcing, workload planning, and client engagement.
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements to support work–life balance.
- Investment in professional development, leadership training, and long-term career progression.
What You Need To Succeed
- Proven experience delivering structural design projects from concept through to construction.
- Strong leadership capability with experience mentoring engineers and managing workloads.
- Confidence in leading client relationships and contributing to fee proposals and project strategy.
- Proficiency with UK design codes and industry-standard structural analysis software.
- Experience across one or more sectors such as commercial, residential, healthcare, aviation, energy, or data centres.
- Chartered Engineer status with the IStructE/ICE, or close to achieving it.
- A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
