The role
- Developing civil engineering designs from feasibility and option studies through to detailed design.
- Preparing detailed design drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
- Developing sustainable drainage strategies for complex urban developments.
- Preparing Flood Risk Assessments across all flood zones.
- Preparing reports to support planning applications and design-stage deliverables.
- Producing and coordinating project drawings and documentation.
- Working with clients, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders to resolve technical queries and requests for information.
- Attending meetings and workshops and communicating design solutions through sketches, models and presentations.
- Coordinating design information with wider project teams and stakeholders.
- Investigating design options independently and working collaboratively to identify effective solutions.
- Supporting project delivery within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Working alongside senior team members to help drive projects forward.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to more junior members of the team where appropriate.
- Contributing to your own development and that of others through knowledge sharing, meetings and CPD activities.
What you need to succeed
- At least 4 years’ industry experience
- A minimum of 1 year’s UK civil engineering experience.
- Experience using MicroDrainage and/or InfoDrainage.
- Experience using Civil 3D.
- Hands-on experience developing SuDS strategies for complex urban developments.
- Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments across all flood zones.
- Experience with the detailed design and specification of external hard landscaping and pavement design.
- Experience with the detailed design of Section 38 and Section 278 highway works.
- Experience designing and negotiating flood compensation schemes in undefended, high-risk flood zones.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- The confidence to work independently while knowing when to collaborate and seek support.
- A growth mindset and a positive, approachable attitude.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
- A genuine interest in sustainable engineering and the positive impact infrastructure can have on the built environment.
