Senior Structural Engineer | Derby

A well known and highly regarded client is currently seeking a highly capable Senior Structural Engineer to join their growing Derby office. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead significant projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the technical and commercial development of a respected consultancy.

The Role

As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects across a diverse range of sectors, including commercial, residential, industrial, education, leisure, and public sector schemes. You will act as a key point of contact for clients and play an important role in guiding the structural team’s development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design projects from concept through to completion
  • Undertake and review structural calculations for steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures
  • Prepare and oversee drawings, specifications, and technical reports
  • Mentor, support, and develop engineers and technicians
  • Manage project budgets, programmes, and client communication
  • Work collaboratively with architects, MEP consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure designs comply with Eurocodes, Building Regulations, and industry best practice
  • Support business development and contribute to bids and proposals

About

We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and excellent communication skills.

Essential:

  • Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Chartered or approaching chartership (IStructE or ICE)
  • Significant experience in UK consultancy delivering building structures
  • Strong design capability across all major structural materials
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds, Robot, ETABS)
  • Ability to manage projects and lead small teams
  • Strong client‑facing skills and commercial awareness

Desirable:

  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary coordination
  • Good working knowledge of BIM/Revit processes
  • Track record in client management and business development
  • Experience in mentoring junior staff and delegating effectively
