Senior Structural Engineer

I’m currently working with a well-established, design-led structural and civil engineering consultancy based in Croydon, who are looking to appoint a Senior Structural Engineer as part of their continued growth. This is a permanent role within a close-knit professional team, offering a strong mix of technical challenge, autonomy, and long-term career progression within a respected regional practice.

The successful candidate will join an experienced and collaborative structures team delivering a broad portfolio of work across residential, commercial, education, and leisure sectors – covering both new build and refurbishment projects. You’ll be involved from concept through to construction, working closely with architects, developers, and contractors. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of projects, mentor junior engineers, and play a visible role in the technical and commercial success of the office.

My client is seeking a confident and capable Senior Structural Engineer who enjoys leading projects, contributing technically, and working directly with clients. This role would suit someone ready to step into a senior position where their experience, judgement, and communication skills are genuinely valued.

What’s On Offer

  • Clear and realistic route to Associate level for the right individual.
  • Varied and interesting workload across multiple sectors and project scales.
  • High level of autonomy and trust, with real influence over project delivery.
  • Supportive, people-focused culture with direct access to decision-makers.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work–life balance.
  • Ongoing professional development and training tailored to your career goals.

What You Need To Succeed

  • Proven UK experience delivering structural designs on building projects.
  • Strong knowledge of materials including steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.
  • Confident using structural analysis and design software (e.g. Tekla/Tedds, ETABS, Robot or similar).
  • Ability to lead projects and coordinate with clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Experience checking designs and supporting junior engineers.
  • Good understanding of UK codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Clear communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Chartered Engineer status with the IStructE/ICE (or actively working towards) is highly desirable.
  • A strong academic background with a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
