Site Manager / Assistant Construction Manager
Location: Near Brentwood, Essex
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 + Car Allowance/Company Car + Excellent Package
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Site Manager / Assistant Construction Manager to join the team delivering the infrastructure for a major new community near Brentwood, Essex comprising approximately 5,000 new homes.
Working on one of the largest residential-led developments in the South East, you will play a key role in overseeing the delivery of critical infrastructure from design through to construction, completion and adoption.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong civil engineering and infrastructure background who enjoys working across the full project lifecycle.
The Role
You will work closely with contractors, consultants, local authorities and housebuilders to ensure infrastructure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction
- Provide technical input during the development of infrastructure designs.
- Review engineering designs and provide buildability feedback.
- Support infrastructure and utility coordination activities.
- Assist with the review of contractor submissions and tender returns.
- Contribute to construction access, haul road and logistics planning.
- Participate in design reviews prior to construction commencement.
Construction
- Monitor contractor performance on site to ensure compliance with programme, quality and approved standards.
- Support the consultant delivery team throughout construction activities.
- Provide engineering support where appropriate.
- Review Health & Safety documentation, including as-built records and handover information.
- Assist with quality assurance processes and compliance inspections.
- Support the management of contract deliverables and completion certification.
Post-Construction
- Monitor completed works throughout the defects period.
- Assist with final inspections and close-out activities.
- Coordinate finishing works associated with highways and infrastructure packages.
- Liaise with local authority representatives regarding inspections and adoption requirements.
- Support contractors in delivering infrastructure ready for adoption.
Housebuilder Coordination
- Provide technical support relating to serviced development parcels.
- Coordinate proposed works affecting primary infrastructure.
- Manage and monitor site permit requirements.
- Carry out inspections of works impacting infrastructure assets.
- Ensure developers and contractors operate in accordance with site-wide requirements.
- Assist with handover processes relating to estate management areas.
Site Management
- Support the management of site-wide security arrangements.
- Assist in the management and maintenance of areas outside active construction phases.
- Act as a key point of contact for site-based stakeholders.
- Contribute to the smooth day-to-day operation of the wider development site.
Requirements
Essential
- Previous Civil Engineering / Infrastructure experience
- Experience managing contractors on-site.
- Strong understanding of highways, drainage and utility infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- SMSTS or SSSTS.
- CSCS Managers Black Card or Supervisors Gold Card.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
- NRSWA.
- First Aid at Work.
- Temporary Works qualification.
- Experience working with permit systems.
- Experience reviewing RAMS.
- Knowledge of quality plans and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
